Differences between WordPress and Joomla

I get this question asked a lot whether you should use Joomla or WordPress. And if you’re asking that question you’re actually on the right track because you understand that using a WordPress or Joomla their content management systems where you, the administrator, could change the content and stuff and you don’t have to call a programmer to change it.

Pros and Cons of Building a site with Joomla or WordPress

Pros and Cons of Building a site with Joomla or WordPress

So you’re on the right track of knowing, either way you’re in good hands, honestly. I mean, if you look at the abundance of resources on the web nowadays with any one of them, you can see eBay uses it Barnes & Noble uses this, GE uses Joomla, IKEA uses Joomla, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s uses Joomla. And if you look at WordPress, you get the same kind of thing. You get eBay again using WordPress.

So, just to have different sites – Yahoo uses WordPress, Digg (it’s a big blogging type of site) uses WordPress, Ford uses WordPress, Wall Street Journal Sony, People, Samsung, PlayStation so on and so forth use WordPress.

A little bit more people than companies use WordPress and implement WordPress. In fact, it’s a little bit more popular and that’s one thing you’re going to look at when kind of comparing what open-source platform you should use.

An open source platform is a free platform where you could download it and you can manipulate it. And it’s really good to use a really popular platform when using open source. I’ll tell you why.

Number one, a lot of people think, is popular and it kind of snowballs into this big popularity thing.

Number two, and most importantly is: a lot of programmers are gaming on it and they’re going to report bugs and/or do bug fixes and they’re going to have a lot of extensions.

So that’s why I typically like to go with WordPress, because they have a lot of extensions, they have a lot of bug fixes and so on.

But Joomla is almost up there – it’s compatible to that stage. Look at the popularity on Joomla – it’s ranked like number one in the world of ranked sites. Most popular is Google and then second one is a YouTube and Facebook and so on and so forth. Joomla is ranked 372 which isn’t bad. And WordPress is rain 98.

SEO on Joomla or WordPress

So WordPress is definitely a lot more popular in terms of how many coders and programmers download it. And they also have a lot more modules and stuff to plug-in. The third thing that I really like about WordPress is the fact that they’re really good with SEO.

It seems with Joomla you need a lot more help to make your SEO correct and make it blend in with Google because, let’s be honest, Google is the main factor of getting your SEO rankings and the whole point of having a website is to make your SEO rank high.

So if you want a simple a plug-and-play kind of thing, WordPress is the best for that SEO and to get up there. The whole point of a website is SEO, but they’re both great platforms. It really just depends on you to do blogging.

Honestly, look at everything online. If you want to compare the difference blogging is the best for WordPress – it just has the best social media plugins and so on and so forth.

Some people like Joomla for put up that and stuff and that’s fine, but in terms of the best in terms of comparisons, in terms of the help – go with WordPress. If I was a programmer and I wanted to program even more I would go with Joomla – sometimes for scalability, or if you wanted to make this huge database architecture site.

But either way you’re fine with a site that could handle a lot of traffic and they can do a lot of plug in place for SEO and you want to get people, to get the site started quickly, I would highly recommend WordPress for that.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. But either way you’re good. Either way I worked on both. I recommend WordPress a little bit more just because there’s a lot more plugins – you find a plug-in online and you don’t have to reprogram, you just plug it in whether it’s some kind of contact thing, whether it’s some social media thing or Twitter thing. And you don’t have to reinvent the wheel and there’s more plugins for WordPress than there is for Joomla. And that helps a lot, there’s more focus on that. So I hope this article helped you and give you some insight, but either way you’re on the right track if you want to get a content management system for your website you.
