The wp-cron.php file is located in the installation folder of your site.

The wp-cron.php module is executed every time a user visits your site. Therefore, it needs a certain amount of resources. Including CPU resources and RAM, so that it is executed with every single visit.

Of course, if your site is hosted on a shared WordPress hosting account, this could lead to performance issues. Temporary limited website or even account suspension are some of them.

Does my website need wp-cron.php?

Sometimes your wp-cron.php module is the reason for high CPU usage of your hosting account. Disabling the default wp-cron.php file settings so that it doesn’t run for every single visitor could help you resolve any resource usage issues.

For some WordPress sites, just permanently stopping the cron jobs for the site may not be a good idea. Creating a cron job manually from your hosting account is a possible solution if wp-cron.php consumes a lot of resources.
