InMotion Managed WordPress Hosting Review with User Opinions 2022

InMotion Hosting is one of the biggest and independent hosting providers globally. It is a well-respected hosting brand in the industry. And even if they’re not part of any huge corporation, they still provide very robust managed WordPress hosting services. In many cases InMotion actually outperforms major hosting brands such as GoDaddy and Bluehost.

One of the things that InMotion Hosting is proud of is their human capital. The company philosophy is that its true power comes from their employees and associates. InMotion claims that the average web hosting experience of their employees is 4 years.

From my experience, one of the most important things for the success of a webhosting company is their support. And when I say ‘support’ I mean human support via phone, chat or email and not support through self-service knowledge base.

InMotion Hosting is known as reliable and fast hosting provider. Their plans are really affordable and if we consider the quality of service and support of InMotion, their hosting plans’ prices are considered as cheap.

InMotion’s hosting services are based on Unix and the company says that they continuously monitor the performance of their servers which guarantees the almost 100% reliability of their hosting services.

Website Speed and Server Performance of InMotion Hosting

The company promises up to 6 times faster websites and emails if you’re within their Exclusive Max Speed Zones. Basically, InMotion’s point is that all of the other hosting providers use a single datacenter as that is the cheapest solution for them. While with InMotion you can choose the location of the datacenter.

Prospecitve customers can even test their download speed from InMotion’s datacenters:

However, I decided to take a different approach to testing InMotion’s speed and reliability. I made some Time To First Byte tests and compared the results of InMotion Hosting to other competitor hosting companies such as Bluehost, GoDaddy, A2 Hosting and WP Engine. The main site of every hosting company is the example of how fast and reliable a site could be when hosted on their servers. So I tested inmotionhosting.com and here’s the TTFB speed test result:

The second Time To First Byte test showed an even better result:

For comparison, Bluehost had the following speed test results:

GoDaddy showed a good Time To First Byte result, but if compared to InMotion and Bluehost, it had the worst speed test results:

A2 Hosting had similar results to the ones of GoDaddy and Bluehost:

WP Engine had the best speed test results so far:

Google PageSpeed’s recommendations were about leveraging browser caching, optimizing images, etc. but no mention about ‘Reduce server response time’ meaning that Google didn’t find any issues with the server’s responsiveness. In fact, InMotion’s result is similar to the PageSpeed test result of WP Engine.

The PageSpeed test result of InMotion shows no ‘Reduce server response time’:

InMotion’s shared hosting plans come with a free domain name included. You can build your website with their free drag-and-drop site builder and CMS platforms such as WordPress and Joomla are installed during the checkout process.

There are three shared business hosting plans – Launch, Power and Pro:

The Launch basic shared hosting plan of InMotion can handle up to 2 MySQL or PostgreSQL databases and just like no other hosting provider you can host up to two websites. You can have no more than 6 parked domains and 25 subdomains with the Launch shared plan.

Power is right in the middle – the maximum number of databases is 50. You can host up to 6 websites with this plan. Power and Pro are advertised as the E-commerce ready hosting accounts. A user on a Power plan can have up to 26 parked domains and up to 100 subdomains.

Pro is the last shared hosting plan of InMotion – it can host an unlimited number of websites and databases. Actually, there are no limits in terms of parked domains and subdomains too.

The disk space is unlimited no matter the type of shared hosting account.

Email accounts and email storage are both unlimited meaning that you don’t need to worry about reaching the quota limit of your mailbox.

Upon new registration, all of InMotion’s shared hosting plans include a free domain name registration or a free domain name transfer.

As a new customer, you are eligible for a completely free website transfer and actually InMotion guarantees that the transfer won’t have any downtime at all.

All data backups are offered as a free service.

InMotion WordPress Hosting Plans – Pros and Cons Overview

WordPress has a special place in InMotion’s hosting plans. There are three types of WordPress hosting services which have the same names as the shared hosting plans – Launch, Power and Pro.

The coolest thing is that InMotion is the only one hosting provider that offers unlimited disk space for their WordPress hosting plans. The monthly bandwidth is unlimited, too.

All of the other features of InMotion’s WordPress hosting plans are the same as the ones for the regular Business shared hosting plans.

InMotion VPS Hosting Plans – Pros and Cons Overview

There are three types of VPS plans at InMotion – VPS-1000HA-S, VPS-2000HA-S and VPS-3000HA-S.

InMotion’s VPS-1000HA-S provides 4 GB of RAM, 75 GB of disk space and 4 TB of monthly bandwidth. You can have up to 3 dedicated IPs with this VPS account.

VPS-2000HA-S is the recommended solution as it offers the needed value and flexibility – 6 GB of RAM, 150 GB of storage, 5 TB of monthly bandwidth and up to 4 dedicated IPs per account.

VPS-3000HA-S provides 8 GB of RAM, 260 GB of disk space, 6 TB of website traffic bandwidth and up to 5 dedicated IPs.

All of InMotion’s VPS accounts run on SSD which are 20% faster than the regular HDD hard disk drives.

Their VPS hosting environment provide high availability redundancy in real time. This means that there’s a redundant hardware that has a copy of your site or account. If there’s an error with your original copy the other server in the cluster will seamlessly load the resources of your site/account.

While other hosting companies charge for backups, all Backup restores are free at InMotion.

Currently InMotion provides free website migration service for transfer of up to 30 cPanels, not more than 5 GB each.

One of the coolest things at InMotion are the Live-state snapshots. These work just like backups. But at the same time you also take a snapshot of your partition. This means that the running processes on the VPS are also backed up. But what if there are issues after a major change on your site? Well you can simply use the live-state snapshots feature to revert to the real state of the system before the change.

All of the VPS plans come with CentOS and LAMP stack which already includes Apache, MySQL and PHP.

InMotion Dedicated Hosting Plans – Pros and Cons Overview

The Dedicated plans come in six flavors – Essential, Advanced, Elite, CC-500, CC-1000 and CC-2000.

All Essential plans run on Intel® Xeon® X3430, 4 CPU Cores, clocked at 2.8 GHz, with 8 MB Cache. Currently there’s a Double RAM promo. This means that if you purchase an Essential Dedicated Package, you will get twice the normal RAM. Which is 8 GB instead of 4 GB of RAM. The free disk space available for Essential Dedicated plans is 500 GB SSD or 1 TB 7.2 K HDD.

The Advanced Dedicated plans of Inmotion Hosting come with Intel® Xeon® E3-1246 v3.  Including 4 CPU Cores at 3.9 GHz with 8 MB Cache. The free double RAM promo provides 16 GB of RAM in total. There’s 500 GB of free SSD disk space or 2 TB 7,2000 rotations per minute HDD.
