Creating a well-built WordPress site can be a time consuming process. If you don’t want to make your visitors aware of the changes that are being made on the site, using a Coming Soon page which notifies your customers that the site is currently under construction can be a great way to let them know that you care about their user experience.

There are many WordPress plugins for creating an Under Construction page. Some of the most popular ones are underConstruction Plugin, Under Construction Plugin and WP Construction Mode Plugin. Let’s review three of the most popular Coming Soon plugins.

How to Install Under Construction Plugin – Pros and Cons

underConstruction Plugin is the most popular free coming-soon type of plugin with more than 100,000 installations so far.

To install the plugin, just log in to your WP Dashboard, click on Plugins > Add New. Type ‘underConstruction’ in the search box.

Click on Install Now and once the plugin is installed, click on the Activate blue button to activate it for your site.

To access Under Construction’s settings, go to WP Dashboard > Settings > Under Construction.

To turn on the Under Construction page, just select On from the Activate or Deactivate section.

The plugin gives you the option to choose from three different HTML status codes when it’s enabled. For instance, if you choose the HTTP 50 3- Service Unavailable status code, search engines like Google will treat this as a sign that your site is still not ready to be shown on search results.

The next option is to restrict logins from specific kind of users in the site. There’s an option to even block certain IP or ranges of IPs from accessing your site while it’s under construction.

The Display Options section provides features for changing the look and feel of the Coming Soon page for the site.

The first option called Display the default under construction page is the one that you should go with if you need just a standard coming soon page for your site.

If you need a more personalized Coming Soon page, then you should go with one of the other three options that are Display the under construction page that is part of the active theme, Display the default under construction page, but use custom text or Display a custom page using your own HTML.

Once you’re done with the changes for your new Coming Soon page, click on the Save Changes button.

Congrats! You now have a fully functional Coming Soon page.
